holy week 2012

holy week is a sacred time of the year..for some this is time to relax and hit the beach and for the others to bond with families  since it was considered as a public holiday ..but most importantly, this is the time that we repent our sins and  remember the passion and Resurrection of  Jesus Christ.

In our province we practiced most of the Holy week tradition (see Holy Week in the Philippines)..and unlike many, my family don't go on outings during this week specially on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, we usually stay home and joined some church activities.. when you're in Pampanga you will usually here old folks singing/chanting  "Pasyon", the narrative of Jesus passion , death and resurrection.. this year we weren't able to do "Visita Iglesia" last Thursday for some reasons..but on Good Friday we heard the mass and Veneration of the cross.. afterwards, we joined the procession and halfway the route going back to the church it rained..Right after the procession, we had dinner at our Tito's house.Saturday was bonding time with my nephews and then comes Easter Sunday, the "Salubong" (meeting of ressurected Christ and Virgin Mary) was held at dawn and then we heard the Easter Sunday Mass.. and right after the mass,  a tradition unique to two towns in Pampang (Minalin and Sto. Tomas) which is called " Pakbung Hudas", it is and event wherein an effigy of Judas Iscarriot made of paper and filled with firecrackers was burn..before it represents the execution of Judas for his betrayal but now it more signifies rejecting sins, and after some "exhibitions" of the effigy, it finishes with a loud explosion from the head...an Easter egg hunt at the nearby park was also held...
our town's Holy Week tradition was very meaningful and hopefully it can be preserve in the coming years so that  younger generations can know and feel the essence of what Holy week is all about..
